Extended School Closure
Good afternoon:
Per Governor Kemp’s March 23, 2020 Executive Order prohibiting the assembly of 10 or more people until April 6, 2020 at noon, Meriwether County Schools, in an act of compliance, will adhere to this Executive Order and close all schools. Meriwether County Schools’ Spring Break is scheduled for April 6, 2020 through April 10, 2020 so Meriwether County Schools will be closed until Monday, April 13, 2020.
Learning packets for students were distributed to students on Friday, March 13, 2020. These learning packets will provide instruction through Friday, April 3, 2020. Spring Break (April 6-10, 2020) is an off-week with no school activities planned during that time. If there are changes to the current return date of April 13, 2020, an announcement will be made regarding efforts to provide instruction and learning materials for students as well as a modified return date beyond April 13, 2020.
As a reminder, student meal pick-up is still in operation on both Monday, March 30, 2020 and Monday, April 6, 2020 at the previously announced meal disbursement sites. Any potential student meal pick-up services beyond April 6, 2020 will be announced in the event the school closure is extended beyond Monday, April 13, 2020.
The health and well-being of our students and staff continues to be our top priority during this time of uncertainty regarding COVID-19. Meriwether County Schools will continue to follow the guidance of local and state health officials during the coming weeks and will provide updates to keep the public informed.
Please keep yourselves and your families safe and adhere to all local, state, and federal mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Robert A. Griffin
Superintendent, Meriwether County School System
